Hi Dorothy, I have just read in another post about your Staffie and it made me smile. We rescued an old staffie cross in January and when you said that he makes you laugh out loud I knew just what you meant! I always said that whichever breed we went for after our last dog died i didn't want a staffie. I knew Jack was a cross but not that he had Staffie in him until we went to see him! How wrong I was about Staffies! he is a perfect dog and never puts a paw wrong! What i wanted to ask you was---do all staffies 'talk'? Jack is always grumbling and mumbling at us and almost tries to carry on a conversation with us, he is so funny! If you didn't know him you'd think he was growling (as we did at first) but now we know it is just these funny little noises and squeaks he makes. YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

hi julie,im glad you think dog talk, yes mine does talk alot,if you listen when he wants out he yawns and the sound he makes sounds like the word out,ok call me daft but he does make conversation does your dog crumble and mumble if not getting his own way mine does typical of a man,my kids think im nuts as i actually argue with him, soooooo glad im alone most of the time but have been caught out, i have even heard the postman chatting to him sad really, wonder if they were on about football?oh and if i offer a treat he turns his nose away and sits there till i find what he wants,i think he is great if i have a glass of wine he will sit up and put his paws on my arm it reminds me not to have another , whos the pet????even my vet gives me funny looks when i tell her.
they are a very misunderstood breed, very clever

yep i've lost the plot but the crumble and mumble is when he lies on his back in the sun or has a treat ie crumbles and when he has to go out i get the grumble for moving him, them the mumble starts(goes on for hours), they really are better than t.v, if you just dog watch,my fav time is playing with him he sounds so scarey but such a softy at the same time,i trained him to help take socks and trousers off when need be for my late hubby and my daughter signs for the deaf, she can command him without a word(bliss) so they are not just bulldozers, ah bring back doc doolittle eh julie, what do us mere mortals know the only time i have heard a nasty bark from him was when i ans a knock at the door he was so pumped up to his full muscles(need to have a staffy to know) and the man was at the other side of the gate by the time i let him out and said wrong house to me and dog was really letting rip, i found out from postie that he got arrested for house thefts ie targeted women on their own, rocky got a real treat for that and just crumbled all day it was chicken. try scratching around his collar area on his neck and see what happens, its really weird, mine has a major crumble when i do it. heh cats are ok they do like to be boss though,my friends hubby talks to theirs

Oh the scratch round the collar area---pure ecstacy! If we scratch his tum roughly on a certain spot his right back leg pumps up and down furiously! And if we rub right inside his ears----oh boy-----heaven! YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

glad to be of help any time,we are so easy amused,i am off on tues for a hol and dog is going to kennels for first time, he's none the wiser but i feel like i'm leaving a child,my friends who both have staffs have left theirs in this place and recomended it to me so at least they have a knowledge of breed, i found that some kennels wont take certain breeds unless muzzle trained and i'm sorry i wont do that,i feel it's owners who need tamed not the animal, but having said that i do understand the fear people have of dogs, rant over, i love when they do the leg thing, does yours lie on his back with no dignity(its a bloke thing)they look so happy getting the air,the best noise i have heard from mine is when he sees a cat out the window its so funny then its as if he whistles down his nose and whoa betide if i get in the way as i'm sent flying like a skittle no wonder they used them to bring bulls down,i could go on for hours but well!!!! folk might talk enjoy

Yes-he lies on his back with great abandon! It was even worse before he was neutered! We've just discovered he likes playing football and attacking the water when it comes out of the hose! And everyone on here knows I'm mad as a barrel of monkeys anyway! Enjoy your hols both of you! YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.
